Commonly referred to as ‘energy healing’, Reiki Healing (pronounced Ray-Key) is an increasingly popular form of alternative healing, that is renowned for increasing energy levels, and promoting relaxation and wellbeing, through non-invasive touch.
Reiki is based on a simple principle – that we’re all guided by an unforeseen life force, which causes us to be alive, and controls our physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing.
When our life force energy is high and flowing freely, we are healthy and happy.
But, sometimes energy can stagnate, and blockages can occur due to physical injury, emotional pain, unhealed trauma, or stress overload -increasing vulnerability to illness, depression, and stress.
Reiki aims to help us recognise these blockages, and then improve the flow of energy fields in and around our body – facilitating our body’s own healing response.
This, in turn, paves the way to greater clarity, confidence, and energy, by enabling relaxation, reducing pain and symptoms of illness, and speeding up the healing process.
During a Reiki session, which will typically last between 20 and 60 minutes, you will lay down (fully dressed). Your Reiki practitioner will then lightly move their hands (which will be placed gently on you, or a few inches above you) all across your body, usually starting at your head, and working their way down to your feet – allowing the Universal Life Force Energy to flow to all energy points within your body.

The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle.
You may feel the warmth of your practitioners’ hands, and experience a tingling sensation, as the Reiki energy works its way throughout the body. Or, you may experience subtle pulsations where the practitioner’s hands are placed or cascading waves of pulsations throughout the body. Many people simply fall into a very relaxing sleep.
Regardless, people often comment on how comforting they find Reiki to be – suggesting that it is like hovering in a threshold state of consciousness, being simultaneously aware of your surroundings, and deeply indrawn.
Whatever the experience, many people, all around the world, have reported miraculous results from Reiki.
